This sweet little vintage copy of Dorothy Sayers’ Strong Poison.
Not everyone is a Peter Wimsey fan: are you?
And the not-so-sweet copy of D.H. Lawrence’s Sons and Lovers. (Aiyiyi, I don’t think I’ve read more than 5 pages in this week. Should I try harder?)
For listening, Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84, which has me completely enthralled. I’m sure I will start to expect that all audiobooks take me six weeks to listen to them. What’s the longest book you’ve listened to (or, read in some other form, if you’d rather)?
These three items are lingering from last week’s selections. New for this week?
* Diane Duane’s So You Want to Be a Wizard.
I’ve had this around for ages, and I’ve heard so many good things, so I thought I’d just peek and then see if I wanted to set aside time for the series at some point. Have you tried this one?
* Nicola Beauman’s biography The Other Elizabeth Taylor.
Did you know that Fleur Fisher’s discussion of A Wreath of Roses will start this Friday? That’s the fourth installment in the Elizabeth Taylor Centenary Celebration; the fifth will be right here, where we’ll celebrate with A Game of Hide and Seek in May. I’ve been dipping into this Persephone for months.
* Alice Munro’s Who Do You Think You Are?
Remember my Alice Munro reading project? This is the fourth collection. If you want to join in, for even just one of the stories therein, I’ll be starting to post about them on Thursdays, beginning May 3rd with “Royal Beatings”.
What’s in your bookbag this week (literally or figuratively)?
Ha. Boy is That a loaded question! 🙂 I only brought home two books from work today. Only. A book of correspondence and one of the longlisted Orange titles that was cut from the shortlist (On the Floor). Not sure when I think I might read these, but I am always optimistic. I really want to read the bio of ET but feel I should try and read more of her fiction first. I *may* try and join in for the May read of A Game of Hide and Seek (I think that was on my list of books to read this year).
Heheh. Yup, sure is! On the Floor looked really interesting to me; not sure what I’d been expecting, but it wasn’t that (based on the synopsis)! There are some spoilers in the biography; depending how good your memory is, you might rather wait until you’re read a few more of the novels.
