Kinna Reads is hosting the second annual Ghanaian Literature Week which begins Monday, November 14th and runs through Sunday, November 20th.
I’ve gathered a small stack and I’m making bookish plans: one of my favourite things to do…make book lists!
So I plan to read one children’s book (Adwoa Badoe’s Ananse Stories) because I’ve been curious about her work since I read her novel Between Sisters earlier this year. (That’s the skinny book at the bottom of this stack.)
And I plan to read a short story and an interview (these two collections are also in the photo, the top and the third book).
And that’s the end of my plans; that’s where the possibilities kick in.
I could re-read Esi Edugyan’s Half-Blood Blues.
Or I could finally read her first novel which I’ve had on my shelves for years.
But I’ve got some others to choose from here. What do you think?
Which should I push to the top of my reading plans for this week’s event?
If you’re participating, what are you planning to read?
::rubs palms in anticipation::
Looking forward to your entry.
Thanks, Nana. I’m quite enjoying what I’ve read so far!
I just pulled Ama Ata Aidoo’s Our Sister Killjoy from the shelves. My Longman paperback has not weathered the years well, but I enjoyed the book 10 years ago. A prose poem, a form that always makes me think of Elizabeth Smart. This does not have Smart’s concision, but a good telling of the tale of a stranger in a strange land.
What an intriguing comparison: I definitely want to give this one a try!
I plan to read short story by Mohammed Naseehu Ali- “Mallam Sile” he was shortlisted in 2009 for the Caine Prize-This is the type of event I really enjoy seeing supported-I will look forward to your posts
Oh, you’ve just reminded me that I made a list of the Caine prize nominees somewhere: I need to dig that out!
Ooh, ooh! Wife of the Gods, read Wife of the Gods. Great mystery! I read the second in the series, Children of the Street this summer. Excellent!
Thanks for the comments: nice to know that I’ve got some good ones here, and that I’ll have good company reading in the coming week too, Mel!
